blind pilot – we are the tide
One of my favorite bands of the last couple years, Blind Pilot, is scheduled to release their sophmore album “We are the tide” on Sept. 13. I am a bit more than excited as I really enjoyed their first album. It’s one of those albums you just cant stop listening to. From the lyrics down to the kick drums every bit is great. I spent many days riding down the coast listening to their sounds as they were an inspiration to me with their own bike tours. I plan on covering some ground with this album in my ears as well.

treasure island music festival lineup announced
The good folks over at Another Planet and Noise Pop released the lineup for the Treasure Island music festival today. These guys have been battling the odds of a tiny location compared to other festivals, no parking, and unpredictable weather since 2007 to a great degree of success.
The entire lineup is pretty amazing but highlights include Empire of the Sun, Death Cab For Cutie, Cut Copy, Chromeo, Buraka Som Sistema, Geographer, Beach House & The Head and The Heart.
Last years event sold out at least a week prior, and I am guessing this year will be no different. Tickets are only $99 bucks if you act fast so better get on it.
and yes after party at my place : D
The Veils
The Veils may just be the best band on earth. Ok so that’s an overstatement but they are nothing short of amazing. From rock solid albums, incredible live performances, and lyrics that will have you straining to retain every word. They dropped an EP in January entitled Troubles of the Brain. Definitely something you want to give a serious listen.
Here is a track off the latest EP. Definitely like the style on this although its a new feel from their previous work
An older one off Nux Vomica. A really powerful album
Ok I forgot how amazing some of these older ones are….last video. The Leavers Dance which Started it all for many of their fans.
bright eyes live EP
Some exciting news from Indie icon, and one of my personal favorite artists, Conor Oberst. The Bright Eyes front man has announced that they will be releasing a live EP this coming July 4th weekend. I’m stoked on all the new Bright Eyes material as I was sure the band was done for. Dont get me wrong, I like the Monsters of Folk material as well as Oberst solo efforts, but something about Bright Eyes just gets me every time.
pre-order it HERE
I guess this is a good time to talk about their latest album as well. Bright Eyes released “The Peoples Key” earlier this year. The album stays true to style with Obersts wavering metaphors, intricate lyrics, and steadfast meloncholy, but there is a sense of maturity in this album. The songs all come off strong and confident, which I really like. I sense a bit of an electronic tinge to the album, which I directly attest to The Killers remix of Four Winds. There are some really strange samples about life, and evolution, and the battle between good and evil thrown in there. Not sure the orgin of those or if they come from an obscure movie perhaps. Overall this is pulling hard for my favorite bright eyes album. Favorite tracks include Approximate Sunlight (so damn good), Jejune Stars, and Shell games. Now for some tunes…
