Richie Panic got me all fired up

San Francisco’s own underground party rocker, and lover of cats Richie Panic has got me all fired up. Not only did he drop this gem of a mixtape a couple weeks back, and his latest edit of A-traks remix of “How deep is your love” is real good. Word on the streets is that Vol 2 of the mixtape is about to be born so keep an eye on the soundcloud and check back for updates.
He will be droppin’ some sound at the Red Bull Canvas Cooler Party tonight so check it out
But dont take my word for it…

Desert Storm 2011….Coachella recap

Oh Coachella….where to start. I figured I would throw together a little recap in order to piece together my week in the desert, and touch on my favorite parts.

I love this festival for so many reasons….I guess it really signifies the end of winter and start of spring/summer for me. Thousands of beautiful people running around under the desert skies in hyphy tank tops and bikinis. Music blasting, art installations, dust, lights, dancing…you get the picture.

Fashion trends this year included douchebags in sailor hats and Indian Headresses, Tiger masks, tank tops (of course), Aztec and Indian prints, neon purses, i dunno I’m not much of a fashion blogger so that’s all for fashion trends.

On to the music.

Friday was the only day I got their early. I saw Skrillex, The Drums, Lauren Hill, Sleigh Bells, The Black Keys, and Kings of Leon. I was really bummed to miss Marina & the Diamonds and Gayngs. After the festival that night we hit up a pretty amazing house party at the Coachella Mini Mansion on PGA west. I ended up playing two sets. One late night techno set, and another marathon day set of indie, and house for the pool party. One of my favorite nights/days of the whole festival.

Saturday was a lot harder to get motivated for the festival as the Coachella Mini Mansion party had continued into that day and turned in to a full on pool party. After a full day of fun in the sun and some interesting interactions with the golfers I was inspired to hit the festival. I drank some tea and headed into the madness once again right around sunset. I ended up seeing parts of Chuckie, Laidback Luke, Yelle, Bright Eyes, One day as a Lion, & a bit of Mumford and Suns. We were lucky enough to have some friends who had gotten table service in the rose garden. I didn’t even know you could get table service at coachella…well you can. It was nothing short of plush with fat roses everywhere, clean grass, statues and fountains and celeb sightings at every turn. I took a souvenir champagne toast photo, introduced some girls to Leo DiCaprio and then passed out until Arcade Fire.

Arcade Fire absolutely killed it with a sing along dance party atmosphere. Their balloon drop and subsequent light show encore was nothing short of epic. check the video

Sunday morning found me feeling refreshed from my nap in the rose garden. I was a bit burnt-out on the polo fields and had a slew of texts from friends asking for a campground rescue. We cruised by and picked up the homies and headed on a small road trip out to Palm springs. We dropped in on the Ace Hotel for the Do Over pool party, and right next door was the Fools Gold/Scion event. We lounged by the pool pretty much all day and shook our tail-feathers to Drop the Lime, Flinch, Star Eyes, The Captain, Nadastrom, Brodinski, Skeet Skeet and guests After the refreshing oasis I was ready to hit the polo grounds once again. I saw Chromeo, Bloody Beetroots Death Crew 77, and Kanye.

Chromeo put on an amazing dance show. As soon as I got there I started dancing, and i pretty much didnt stop until the music did. They brought up Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend to the stage for “I could be wrong”. Chromeo brought A-trak on stage at some point to play drums. I am pretty sure that A-trak holds the Coachella 2011 record for most stage time by playing in 3 different acts. A-trak dj set, Duck Sauce, and on stage with his brother for Chromeo. A-trak you are a badass.

On Monday the trip took an unexpected detour to Santa Monica where we changed our flights last minute and hit up Check Yo Ponytail @ the Echoplex. We walked the Santa Monica Boardwalk, and watched our french companions buy all the random shit you would never buy unless you had never been to the boardwalk.

Check Yo Ponytail was dope with performances by Mattie Safer, Chairlift, and Holy Ghost. I have never been to the Echoplex so I was excited to hang out there. Its a nice little concert venue/club in Echo Park. Good drinks and friendly crowd. Mattie Safer played a short set of only about 3 songs. He didnt do “Is That Your Girl?” which is probably better because its pretty repetitive. After the show we took the party to my friend Landons spot up the street and true to form I almost missed my 6am flight. I am thankful for amazing friends who love me enough to pick me up on the side of the freeway.

thank you Coachella…and see you again next year.
